Who is God?
We learned that God is the creator of everything and that He is real in Gen. 1:1. What else do we know about God? To find out about God, we have to go to the Bible. The Bible tells us everything that God wants us to know about Him. So let’s look at scripture to see what we can find out.
1. God is ruler of heaven and earth. No other God.
“Know therefore today, and take it to your heart, that the Lord, He is God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other” (Deut. 4:39, NASB).
2. God is righteous.
“The Lord is righteous in all His ways and loving toward all He has made” (Ps. 145:17, NIV).
Isaiah tells us that God is righteous. Righteous means without sin. We also learn that God loves everything that He has made. And since He made you, God loves you.
3. God is everywhere.
“You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways” (Ps. 139:2-3, NIV).
How can God know what we are doing all of the time? How can He be with me and with you all the time? The Bible tells us that God is everywhere. When your parents can’t be with you, God can.
4. God knows everything.
“Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit” (Ps. 147:5, NIV).
God knows everything and can do anything. We saw the awesome power of God when He created the world. God can create the world and help you deal with your problems too.
5. God is made up of three equal persons.
“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all” (2 Cor. 13:14, NIV).
The Bible tells us there is only one God but that God is three equal persons. This is called the Trinity (God, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit). Trinity means three in one.
6. God loves all of us, even while we are sinners.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16, NIV).
God love us dearly. He wants to be our friend. Because Adam and Eve sinned, God had to make plans for us to come to Him and that was done by the death of Jesus Christ.
7. God is invisible but revealed to us through Jesus.
“No one has ever seen God. The only Son, who is truly God and is closest to the Father, has shown us what God is like” (John 1:18, CEV).
8. God is all-powerful. Nothing is impossible for God. Remember that God created the whole world. In Genesis 1:1, God tells us that He created the whole world. How awesome is that!
Wow, no one has seen God. Jesus came on earth so that we will know what God is like. By looking at Jesus, we can see God.
