In my book on “Let’s Talk About Salvation”, I talked about Adam and Eve and the first sin. Satan tricked Eve into believing that she would be like God if she ate the forbidden fruit. Eve believed his lie and she ate the fruit. She then gave the fruit to Adam to eat and he did. Their terrible mistake of eating the fruit from the forbidden tree affects everyone today. Because of their sin, we are all sinners. We have to be saved to get to heaven. Saved is another word for Christian. To be a Christian, you have to do three things:

1. Believe and confess that Jesus is Lord and Savior. We have to believe in our hearts and say out loud to someone that Jesus is God. We know we have to do this because Rom. 10:9-10 tell us this: “So you will be saved, if you honestly say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and if you believe with all your heart that God raised him from death. God will accept you and save you, if you truly believe this and tell it to others” (Rom. 10:9-10, CEV).

2. Confess and Repent. The Bible tells us in 1 John 1:9 (NIV),”If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

Confess means to:

A: Admit that your sin is wrong and that it is not pleasing to God.

B: To tell God about the bad things you have done and ask for forgiveness.

Repent means to:

A. Turn away from your sin.

B. To be sorry for what you have done.

C. To promise not to do it again.

3. Make Jesus Lord over your life. This means to be obedient to God’s Word. Believing that Jesus is Lord and Savior is not enough. We must live a life that is pleasing to God. Satan knows that Jesus is Lord and Savior, but he has not made Christ the Lord over his life. So Satan is not saved.

Now that you have accepted Jesus into your heart, it is time to start acting like Jesus. Before you can act like Jesus, you have to get rid of all of the junk that is inside. Since everyone is born a sinner, you have to remove all of those sinful things within you. You have to get rid of all of the junk so that Jesus will feel welcomed in His new home. Let’s say that you invited a friend over to play. You guys decide to play a football game but you don’t allow him to play. You decide to play tag with your sister but never ask your friend to play. Now it is time for dinner and you eat without offering him any dinner. How do you think this person feels? Do you think he or she would feel welcomed at your home? Do you think they will feel like your friend? Well this is how Jesus feels when we invite Him into your hearts but do not get rid of all of the junk inside us.

So after you are saved, it is your job to make Jesus feel welcomed and your friend!
